The Craft Beer Diet

Hello World! I love craft beer. Truly, I just love it. So when I hit 202 lb just two days before my 40th birthday, I had a challenge ahead. You see, my body had been flirting with the 200lb barrier for at least half a decade. I promised myself that if I ever crossed that line, I would take action. Major action. Not the wussy goal of losing a few pounds. I was going to regain my 20 year old body. That was the plan.

And I did it! Today, 1 year and three months later, I am thrilled to say I am 50lb lighter. And I didn't quit drinking beer. I didn't even cut back. I did this for science : ). Of course, I could have cut back. OK, actually, this past month I cut back a little. But that's another story.

Let's get back to that 40th birthday. 202lb. I always thought that to loose weight I'd need to quit or seriously cut back on beer. But I love beer. Did I mention that? Sure, I see lots of good reasons to drink less beer. But I had a clever idea! Why not loose all that weight and get in great shape without cutting back on beer??!! Why not put the beer reduction off until next year? Whoa. I could call it The Craft Beer Diet! Shivers.

Wait, somebody's probably already written a book about this or build a website, right? I Googled it. Nope! You got to be kidding me. Is it possible this is an original idea? Unlikely, but let's role with it. Let's invent some lifestyle changes that result in regaining my 20 year old body without drinking less beer. In the name of science! And love! For the love of beer and my fellow craft beer lovers - maybe I can inspire them too!

Wait, did you just say "lifestyle changes?" Yep. That's right. The Craft Beer Diet is a bullshit name. I've never tried dieting myself, but I'm sure I've heard a thousand times that dieting doesn't work. If I do inspire you, and you decide to commit to The Craft Beer Diet, you'll be committing to a 1 year lifestyle change. And even that is a trick, because you'll be so happy that you won't want to go back to your old lifestyle and your old body. Anyway, you can call it The Craft Beer One Year Lifestyle Change Commitment if you want. I prefer calling it The Craft Beer Diet. It makes it sound like you get to drink lots of Craft Beer. And you do! Woohoo!

So how does it work? Well, I had to consult some pretty brilliant people to figure out. Fortunately, I read the internet sometimes, so I have access to this brilliance. I think that Stephen Hawking put it best. "We eat too much and move too little, it's not rocket science."

I hope you read that with Stephen Hawkings' voice. It really is that simple. Move more, eat less, and cut back on beer later. Have your six pack and drink it too : )
